The engine has now been timed. This process requires the setting of the angular position of each crankshaft in turn so that it is phased correctly with regard to the other two crankshafts. Each crankshaft needs its position set to within 1/4 of a degree of rotation, it is extrememly laborious and highly skilled work. Once the cranks are set the camshafts are set - these control the point of commencement of fuel injection and must be set to an accuracy of 1/2 a degree. C1 exhaust piston is the datum for engine timing so it's controlling crankshaft (BC) is the one seen here. The dial shows 180 which means that C1 exhaust piston is at bottom dead centre.
