Two new volunteer’s onsite this week along with a small group of volunteers. D9009 has had some of the door locks repaired. D9015 had the third and final field divert relay number 1 removed. The centre electrical cubicle at number one end was painted with grey varnish. Number two end had the three motor contactors removed, all six motor contactors and three field divert relays are now ready to be cleaned and tested prior to being refitted. Some of the jacking pocket covers were temporarily fitted while adjustments are made to make sure they have the best fit. In the coach the electrics work is nearing an end.

The regular team of volunteers at Barrow Hill and it’s the start of winter maintenance. D9009 had a leaking driver windscreen, this windscreen has been removed and will soon be resealed and refitted. Tulyar’s overhaul is continuing and motor contactors 1, 2 and 3 plus field divert relays 2 and 3 have been removed. Field divert relay 1 will be removed next week and this gives us chance to check the current cabling and check the electrical cubicles. While these components are out they will be checked, repaired if necessary then tested before re-fitment. The body work has had more filling and sanding.

A reminder that the 2010 AGM will be held on the morning of 6 March 2010 at the Aston Court Hotel in Derby.

Details and formal Notice will be in the next issue of Deltic Deadline and the AGM itself is restricted to current members of the DPS.

An important date to remember is 13 February 2010. If you are not able to attend the AGM, you can apply for a proxy vote, in writing, to the Secretary as long as your request arrives on or before that date. This date is also the latest one for nominations to the Board to be received by the Secretary.

You will need to bring your membership card to the AGM.

A worksplate from 55009 was sold by a private collector on 16th January by Great Central Railwayana Auctions at auction for £2200. The worksplate with the front repainted and the back in original condition had its BR sales paperwork from Rail Curios, York including acceptance of offer and till receipt. Information kindly supplied by David Jones of GCRA.

This compared with a worksplate from 55016 that was sold in November 2009 for £1750. This worksplate was stripped back to bare brass and mounted on a presentation board. Of interest is that at the same auction a headboard from ‘The Shamrock’ , boat train London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street service, often hauled by the Prototype Deltic failed to reach its reserve of £2000.

The calendar is landscape and features a different A4 sized picture of Tulyar for each month. Printed on good quality paper the calendar opens out to A3 size, ideal for the work place or home. Priced at £8.50 including postage.

The Draw took place, as planned, on 9 January 2010 at our Depot at Barrow Hill. The following numbers are the winners:

1st prize of £250 = 2322
2nd prize of £100 = 18161
3rd prize of £100 = 13795
4th prize of £50 = 2324
5th prize of £50 = 4131
6th prize of £50 = 12912

The Draw has raised £3,010, after deducting prizes and printing costs. This compares to £2,538 last year and is the highest figure ever. This is a fantastic achievement, especially against the current background of economic turmoil. All of the DPS Board would like to express their thanks for your generous and enduring support.

Martin Walker is delighted to announce completion of the purchase of D9016 'Gordon Highlander'. The loco should be collected from the HNRC facility at Barrow Hill early next week by 55 022 and moved to its new home at the East Lancashire Railway. Both Deltics should be in operation at the Railway on Saturday 9th of January and Martin looks forward to seeing many there for what promises to be an entertaining day.

It is also planned to have both locomotives running on the ELR on February 13th, after which the operational engine from D9016 will transferred to 55022 as a short term measure to get RSG back into full working order at the earliest opportunity. Once the overhauled unit is completed, the plan is to use D9016 as a running in test bed for this unit.
