| The DPS has owned the cab of 55008 for a number of years and it has travelled around the country to numerous open days. It has been enjoyed by children and adults alike but only now will the cab become a proper Deltic again!
With modern technology 55008 will be able to be driven along the ECML again and for the first time with anybody at the controls. No restrictions! It can be driven with you at the controls and be as realistic as it can ever get.
The time has come when a standard high spec home computer and some additional software and hardware will make this come true. It will be an asset to the DPS and will be a self financing structure once set up.
During 2004 the cab was on show at Railfest and used as a Deltic Simulator and later on in the year at the 'Cab It' weekend at the NRM York with a more basic control system. With these events being such a success with everyone who took to the controls the decision was made to upgrade the system.
Most people are aware of Train Simulators from different companies but there is an odd one which stands out from the crowd which is continually upgraded and has been tried and tested. This is Trainz, the most recent version is called TRS2004.
The ECML project will be centred around this superb simulator.
Trainz are very keen to help us, Henk Plaggemars who is the Global Coordinator for Trainz says:-
"We are keen to help the DPS realize its goal of reliving the glory days. Certainly with our software, your cab and some goodwill we can get the show on the road."
Trainz will also help when the time comes to bundle the ECML onto either a CD or DVD depending on the file size and be sold via the DPS only. This will depend on the content creators permission to allow their work to be reproduced and sold in this way. Hopefully you will be able to drive a Deltic or anything else you can mention on the ECML from your PC at home.
Trainz have in fact supplied us with the public licensed version allowing us to run at public events. Without this kind help none of this project would see the light of day in a proper cab - just your PC at home.
