DPS members and any other followers of Deltics may be interested to know that the May 2020 issue of Railways Illustrated magazine, which is now on sale, has a six page article in it entitled "Alycidon's year - May 1980 to May 1981". Written by our Publicity Officer, Paul Gildersleve, it is the first of three features which will look back at that period - parts 2 and 3 will, of course, cover 55015 Tulyar and 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier. We realise that some of you may not be able to buy magazines in the usual way at this time - as well as being available in printed format in shops, the magazine can also be purchased electronically through http://www.pocketmags.com

The West Somerset Railway has advised that it has taken the difficult decision to cancel its diesel gala, which was due to take place on June 4th-7th. At the present time, the Worth Valley gala is still on, but the KWVR is closely watching the situation.

The Gloucester & Warwickshire Railway is awaiting the outcome of the next announcement from the Government before deciding, we have discussed possible options should it not be possible to go ahead.

Please see the next Deltic Deadline for a full update.

Up until now, we have left the decision to volunteers as to whether they wish to come to Barrow Hill in view of the virus pandemic. However, it is now obvious that, regrettably, but understandably, we have to close the depot to try and safeguard everyone - so they can one day come back and volunteer!

The closure is from now until Tuesday June 30 after which a decision will be taken depending on how this virus is being contained and suppressed.

I think you will agree after seeing the news of what is going on elsewhere, particularly in Italy, Spain and the USA that we should be acting now and not later. Sorry to be the bearer of disappointing news for those for whom it is a way of life coming to Barrow Hill . . . but we do want to see you come again!

Thanks for your understanding.

Murray Brown, DPS
