Please see below press release from the Gloucestershire-Warwickshire Railway:
The GWR Diesel Department is pleased to announce that the Deltic Preservation Society’s class 55 Deltic locomotive no.55019 ‘Royal Highland Fusilier’ will be this year’s visiting locomotive at its main 2020 diesel gala event to be held over 3 days from Friday 24th July to Sunday 26th July 2020. As with last year’s visit of class 50 no.50035 ‘Ark Royal’, the locomotive will be staying at the GWR until early October, and will therefore also be a key highlight of the Autumn Diesel Weekend, this year being held on Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th September. It may also feature on occasional service train diagrams during its stay, one of which will involve a Members’ Day for DPS members.
This will be the first ever appearance of one of the iconic Deltic express passenger locomotives on the former GWR and BR Western Region cross country main line via Stratford and Cheltenham, and will provide a unique sight (as well as that unique Deltic sound) as it passes through the Cotswold scenery between Broadway and Cheltenham Racecourse.
Due to the ever increasing transport costs of moving such large locomotives by road, this is an opportunity that will probably not happen again, so will hopefully provide some historic images of this former flagship locomotive of the East Coast Main Line passing through the Cotswolds. The GWR would like to thank the DPS for its help in making this unique opportunity possible.
