55019 - tyre turning at Midland Road

DPS Press Release - March 2nd 2020:

The Deltic Preservation Society has arranged, with the kind assistance of Freightliner, for Deltic 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier to be tyre turned on the lathe at Midland Road depot, Leeds.

A cavitation was found on No. 5 wheelset and it is deemed necessary to turn the tyre to eradicate the fault. This is being done before No. 55019 embarks on its programme of visits to heritage railways, starting with the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway in March.

West Coast Railway Company is undertaking the movement to and from Leeds, probably using Class 31 No. 31128. The Deltic is due to move on March 16.

The DPS would like to thank Freightliner for arranging this tyre turning at short notice to enable its planned programme of visits to take place.
