Preparations for GCR gala

Pete S, Mick P and Mike H-R attended to carry out a DPS 'A' exam which Pete and Mick did whilst Mike changed the screw coupling at No2 end as it failed the GCR inspection on arrival with excess play on the screwthread. A replacement was sourced from D9009 as we have a new pair for her. The only issue on the A exam was very minor, the Motak in No5 gear case needs topping up - unfortunately we have none in the depot so the Heavy Tractor Group has given us a couple of tubes.

When all was completed Mike drove the loco onto the pit for Tom Tighe (ex Doncaster Works Deltic man) to do a GCR Acceptance Exam which the loco passed with no issues. After this it was out for a loaded test run with 37714 Cardiff Canton as a load, at no cost, many thanks guys. Unfortunately the HTG chairman, Andy Gillett, who was our 2nd man had to depart due to family issues so John Pepper drove up and he and Mike shared the driving and 2nd man duties.

The trip went well and all was fine and the loco is now available for the Great Central Railway Diesel Gala on 3rd/4th/5th September. We hope to see you all there and the sales team will be more than happy to empty your wallet for you.
