55021 Cab Restoration

Darrell Marsh reports.

At the end of April a meeting was held with some of the team of DPS volunteers that restored the cab from 55008, Richard Benyon from The Cab Yard and Ian Williams from I.W. Fabrications at the site in Staffordshire where the cab from 55021 currently resides. A plan was devised and put to the DPS Board. Following the Board meeting on Sunday 1st June it was agreed that a team of DPS volunteers would take this project on and at some point, in the future take custodianship of the cab for a yet to be determined period of time at the DPS Depot in Barrow Hill.

The plan from the first meeting is for the cab to be restored in 3 stages.

Stage 1 will see the cab restored externally starting with some fabrication work, applying the primer and undercoat before the final coats of gloss paint. Items including the doors and windows will have work carried out away from site while the cab body is being prepared.

Stage 2 will see the cab relocated to a new home.

Stage 3 will see the cab completed with full internal restoration.

There are NO timescales for any of the above to be completed.

Updates will be provided as work progresses.
