The DPS was honoured to host a visit today, VJ Day, of 17 people-from Flowers for the Fallen including Ken Cooke, a World War 2 veteran who served in The Green Howards and celebrated his 100th birthday this week.
The visit started with everyone assembling in front of the cab from 55008 with flags to observe a 2 minute silence at 12 o'clock. After a series of TV interviews Ken then visited the cab, sat in the driver's seat and posed for photos before leaving a cross with the current regiment crest and a message on the loco. We then moved to the roller shutter doors to see 55009 start up. After a buffet lunch and drinks, a tour of Barrow Hill Roundhouse took place before rounding the day off at 3.30pm.
