“THE RETURN OF THE RACEHORSE” – D9015 TULYAR RETURNS TO PASSENGER SERVICE

The Deltic Preservation Society is excited to announce the return to passenger service of Deltic D9015 Tulyar after almost 30 years away.

At 12 noon on 31st July 2026, D9015 will depart Loughborough Central station on the Great Central Railway, headed non-stop to Leicester North hauling its first passenger train since April 1997. On board will be around 350 DPS members and invited guests including many of the volunteers who have contributed so much to the restoration over the past 30 years.

Tulyar will go on to work public trains on the GCR over the weekend 1-2 August.

It is estimated that the restoration, led in recent years by locomotive manager and DPS board member Pete Stojanovic,has involved tens of thousands of hours of work and over £100,000 of Society funds.

DPS Chairman John Minards said

“I am tremendously proud to be involved in this great society and today in particular to witness the culmination of such fantastic efforts of so many over so many years. I hope everyone will agree that Tulyar both looks and sounds magnificent. We are very proud that all three of our Deltic locomotives are now serviceable, and each running on two power units! We look forward to exciting plans for 2027 when the Society celebrates its 50th anniversary”
