D9015 hauls its first train for 29 years. Tulyar is back!

Tuesday 26th May 2026 is a date that will become one of the stand out days in the history of the DPS as it saw the first day of testing since D9015 was stopped on April 13th 1997.

First, the loco made two round trips between Loughborough and Leicester North on the GCR, alternating between the two power units.

After that it was time to couple the loco up to a rake of nine coaches including the directors saloon, which afforded the volunteers a unique view of “their loco” as it left Loughborough hauling its first train since April 13th 1997.

Truly an event to savour!

After returning to Loughborough and running round the train it was time to complete the days proceedings in the best way possible. A two engine return trip!

All in all, an extremely successful day. A few very minor snags presented themselves which is what testing and shakedown is all about.

More testing is due next month and if everything goes to plan the loco can be signed off as ready for traffic.

Ready to go with the first train in over 29 years!

Many short videos were made by the volunteers during the day and a lot of these can be found on the DPS YouTube channel.
