Depot report 7th and 8th June 2025.
Saturday saw the final preparations completed in readiness for 55009 heading off to the diesel galas at NYMR and KWVR.
Alycidon is scheduled to leave Barrow Hill on Tuesday 10th.
Elsewhere in the depot, work continued on rebuilding PU430, which is planned to be the replacement power unit for the faulty #451 at #2 end of 55009.
Outside, on D9015, the replacement rubber seals on Tulyar's engine room doors were fitted. #2 engine was started to investigate the oil leak discovered during the recent shakedown test on B side oil radiator. This was deemed severe enough to require a replacement. The society holds a few oil radiators in the stores and these pallets were taken off the racking ready for inspection. Two of the spares will be selected and sent to be refurbished and tested.
Sunday saw a start made on painting the floor while we had a clear space. The area was swept several times to ensure as much dust as possible was collected, washed and a coat of heavy duty floor paint applied.
A group of DPS volunteers are assisting the South Wales Cab Group to get the cab from 55021 externally restored. Whilst fabrication work progresses away from Barrow Hill, some of the removable parts have been collected and work is being carried out at the DPS Depot. The day also saw both of the cab doors rubbed down and primer applied where required.
