Depot Report - Saturday 26th October 2024

Updated: 7 days ago

Both 55009 & 55015 had been shunted out during the week to enable running tests to be carried out; well, that was the plan!

D9015.

The intention was to test the loco to see if the systems were ready to allow power to be taken. However the obligatory 'Saturday one step back' syndrome picked up. The wiring is all complete but we could not progress as the Air Brake Pipe governor was not doing as it should, and activate the pressure switches to control the required systems. We believe that it is a problem with the Brake Application unit.

55009.

As the loco has not run since May, the batteries had been on charge during the week to allow a start up. Once the required pre start checks had been done on unit 408 the loco was started and all appeared to be OK. Brakes and other safety checks carried out and the engineers were happy.

Stores.

Work continued with the reorganising of the stores and it was a positive day with a fair level of progress on both sorting items and planning ahead. The new 'stores control system' is now starting to be utilised.

Depot.

Visitor numbers were fairly low in the morning but soon picked up after lunch with one of our volunteers showing people what was going on in the Depot. This created interest and several people asked for membership forms. We had some positive feedback on what we were doing as a Society.
