Forthcoming Events

55019 'Royal Highland Fusilier' has had a two month spell at the Nene Valley Railway and returned to Barrow Hill for the winter on November 1. Discussions are taking place with various railways concerning 2020 visits, with three already confirmed:

Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway - March 2020

A first for a 'Deltic'! 55019 will be appearing at the line's gala on Friday 27th to Sunday 29th March. In addition, there will be Footplate Experience days taking place on Tuesday 24th & Wednesday 25th March.

Severn Valley Railway - May/June 2020

55019 will, once again, be visiting the Severn Valley Railway for its diesel gala on Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th May. In addition, it will be used on SVR Footplate Experience days on Monday 11th May, Tuesday 12th May , Tuesday 19th May, Wednesday 20th May , Sunday 31st May and Monday 1st June. Gloucestershire-Warwickshire Railway - July-October 2020

55019 ‘Royal Highland Fusilier’ will be this year’s visiting locomotive at its main 2020 diesel gala event to be held over 3 days from Friday 24th July to Sunday 26th July 2020. The locomotive will be staying at the GWR until early October, and will therefore also be a key highlight of the Autumn Diesel Weekend, this year being held on Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th September. It may also feature on occasional service train diagrams during its stay, one of which will involve a Members’ Day for DPS members - more details to follow.

DPS AGM and Lord Nelson Memorial Lecture - March 7th 2020

The DPS Annual General Meeting takes place at the NRM at York on Saturday March 7, and the formal business will be followed by the Lord Nelson Memorial Lecture, which begins at around 13.00 - non-members are most welcome to attend the lecture. This year’s speaker is a gentleman who we have been hoping to entice for some time to give us his recollections of his many years associated with the Deltics in the Plant.

Mike Crabtree will regale the audience of his life and times in the Crimpsall shops as he and his colleagues faced the daily battle to finish any work, planned or unscheduled, on the Class 55s and so get them back into service - the punctuality of the ECML depended on it! Mike was one of the organisers of that incredible and unforgettable Open Day on February 27, 1982 when enterprising Works’ staff threw open the Plant doors to allow some 8,000 people to troop in to pay their last respects to the 13 remaining Deltics, spread around the site.
